Natural pigments to enhance visual appeal

Our research into the production and genetic control of plant pigments aims to enhance the visual appeal of ornamental and fruit crops and many food, timber and vegetable crops. We are identifying genes for enzymes that produce rare, brightly coloured pigments, and developing cell culture production systems for natural food colorants and flowers. In many cases these pigments also enhance the nutritional value of foods.
