Crop & Food Research Australia Pty Limited

Crop & Food Research has an expanded presence in Australia through Crop & Food Research Australia Pty Ltd - a wholly owned subsidiary of the New Zealand Institute for Crop & Food Research Ltd. A number of collaborative research programmes are already providing New Zealand and Australian companies with new product opportunities and providing consumers with nutritious, fresh and tasty foods.

The current range of activities includes:

  • The Vital VegetablesTM programme - an initiative of the New Zealand and Australian vegetable industries to identify vegetables with greater health benefits, freshness and flavour
  • The AUSGRAINZ Alliance between CSIRO Plant Industry Division and CFR, designed to co-ordinate and enhance particular areas of the joint cereal grain research carried out by CSIRO and CFR
  • HRZ Wheats Pty Ltd - a new company focusing on breeding and commercialising high yielding, disease-resistant, milling quality wheat cultivars for high rainfall zones in Australia
  • The GlycANZ Alliance between CSIRO's Food Futures Flagship and CFR, has been established to strengthen the impetus of carbohydrate research as it pertains to human health
  • Trimark Varieties - a tripartite alliance with fresh market potato growers and a distributor, accessing Australian supermarkets
  • New variety development and licensing of milling and durum wheat & cereal forages, field peas and fresh, crisping and French fry potatoes
  • Contract and joint venture research in cereal food processing, molecular biology, postharvest handling, novel and new crops and ornamentals

There are staff in Crop & Food Research Australia located in Albury, NSW.

Crop & Food Research Australia is a member of the Australian Seed Federation and the ASF Plant Breeders and Proprietary Marketers Group.
